A few months ago, a senior manager over a coffee told us something that really stayed with us:
“I’m performing better than ever.
But somehow, I feel less certain than ever.”
He wasn’t failing.
He wasn’t stuck.
He was successful — and quietly anxious.
In the age of AI, this is no longer an exception.
It is becoming the emotional state of high performers.
When careers get longer, clarity must get deeper
Today, careers don’t last 20 years.
They last 45 years or even more.
AI accelerates change.
Roles evolve.
Titles expire faster than skills.
Yet many managers still run their careers without a strategy — reacting to opportunities, promotions, and disruptions as they come.
The real question is no longer:
“What job should I aim for next?”
It is:
“What is my North Star Career when everything keeps changing?”
Clarity of Purpose is a direction.
Purpose doesn’t mean quitting your job to “find yourself”.
Purpose is knowing:
- Who you are currently ultimately serving ?
- Why your current work matters beyond your KPIs
- What kind of purpose leader you want to become — regardless of role
Purpose gives direction, not comfort.
Passion gives energy, not certainty.
Perspective taking gives understanding the company, the upper management, the partners and most importantly the customers.
Creative Imaginativeness gives the different Scenarios for our directions
Self-awareness gives the Light for each Scenario
Together, they keep you moving — even when the map keeps changing.
In the AI era, Perspective taking, Empathy and Creative Imagination beats all AI Answers
AI can generate as many answers faster than any human.
But it still cannot:
- Feel empathy
- Imagine what should exist
- Ask the uncomfortable, human question
Managers who thrive don’t try to outthink AI.
They learn to think differently
They connect dots across disciplines.
They ask better questions.
They design, test, learn, and redesign — like entrepreneurs of their own careers.
They shall be more human, more empathy
Performance is no longer about effort
The best managers are not the busiest.
They are the most value-creating.
They let AI handle repetition.
They focus on:
- Judgment
- Decision-making
- Strategy
- Developing people
Performance today is not about working harder.
It is about working on the right things — with the right partners, human and AI.
Happiness is not the reward at the end
Many leaders postpone happiness:
“After this project.”
“After the next promotion.”
“After things stabilize.”
But things never fully stabilize.
Sustainable performance comes from:
- Managing energy, not just time
- Working in psychologically safe environments
- Having the courage to experiment and sometimes fail
Happiness is not a destination.
It is infrastructure with you on your journey Now.
So what should managers do now?
Start small. But start intentionally.
- Understand yourself more deeply than your job description
- Build relationships that last longer than any role
- Invest in skills that travel across industries
- Design your career — don’t outsource it to chance
- Build your Purpose, Passion, Performance under Deep Self-Awareness
In a world full of algorithms, AI and Robots, the most future-proof assets are still human:
Purpose. Empathy. Judgment. Creative Imagination. And Courage.
Your career is a long journey.
Make it a meaningful one.
